| Welcome to Khankah S.A.M. (Sufi Ahmed Murad Chisti) the Sufi name of Samuel Lewis The first residential community of the Sufi Ruhaniat International. The Khankah started shortly after the death in 1971 of Murshid Samuel Lewis, an American Sufi Master, The community is located in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. The original nucleus of the Khankah was the Mentorgarden, the home of Murshid Samuel Lewis, and in the 1970s and 80"s under the direction of Murshid Wali Meyer, expanded to include a number of houses in the neighborhood. The Khankah continues as a source of blessing, inspiration and personal growth for its residents, visitors, and guests. It is a place of prayer, hospitality, and teachings-set in tranquil and beautiful gardens-truly a welcome oasis in the City. There are many ways to come and share in the Khankah. These include: a weekly potluck dinner on Tuesdays at 6:30pm; classes and ongoing practices at the Mentorgarden and the Norwich Dining Hall; monthly Saturday workdays; Thanksgiving and Christmas community celebrations; overnight guest stays by reservation; and the opportunity of long term residence and Khankah membership.
